چکیده

This article presents an approach for deriving upper bound for endto-end delay in a double star switched Ethernet network. Four traffic classes, following a strict priority queuing policy, were considered. The theoretical analysis was based on network calculus. An experimental setup, which accurately reflects an automotive communication network, was implemented in order to evaluate the theoretical model. The results obtained by the experiments provided valuable feedback that redefined the analytical model.

Forward End-To-End delay Analysis for AFDX networks

Packet switched networks and message multiplexing have been a major upgrade for industrial systems communications. In the avionics domain, this evolution was brought by the introduction of Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX). Guaranteed upper bounds of end-to-end delays for messages transmitted over an AFDX network are mandatory for certification reasons. In this article, we present t...

An Approach to Reduce Application-to-Application Latency in a Real-Time Distributed Architecture

The great interest raised by the advantages of using Ethernet technology to support real-time communications has led to various proposals in the literature, involving both Shared and Switched Ethernet, to obtain predictable behavior. However, to reduce application-to-application transfer time, latency within the end-nodes has to be addressed too. This paper illustrates a solution to improve the...

Network calculus: application to switched real-time networking

In this paper, we show how Network Calculus can be used to determine whether a switched network may satisfy the time constraints of a real-time application. If switched architecture are interesting in the sense that they offer flexible design and may eliminate collisions in Ethernet-based network, they are not guaranteeing end-to-end performances (in particular in terms of delay), especially wh...

Trends in avionics switched Ethernet networks

The AFDX (Avionics Full DupleX switched Ethernet) which has been standardized as ARINC 664 is based on Ethernet technology. Using full duplex links eliminates the inherent indeterminism of vintage Ethernet due to frames collision, but it shifts in fact the problem to the switch level where various flows enter in competition when using the same output port. Thus main problem is due to the indete...

Designing, Modelling and Evaluating Switched Ethernet Networks in Factory Communication Systems

The Ethernet network is increasingly used for the industrial communications which are strongly timeconstrained. This paper presents both a method (based on the genetic algorithms) to design switched Ethernet architectures and a method (based on the network calculus) to evaluate these network architectures in term of maximum end-to-end delay.
